<image:title>ADOT Design Build - A new traffic interchange was designed for ADOT, allowing Perryville Road to have full access to Interstate 10 (I-10). A key project component was reducing the scale of the roadway lighting from 100-foot high mast poles to 69-foot median mounted poles. This change reduced construction costs by up to $800,000 while still adequately lighting the roadway without light-spill into adjacent neighborhoods. As lead traffic engineer, Chris was responsible for the traffic signal, roadway lighting, ITS and signing/pavement marking designs.</image:title>

<image:title>ADOT Design Build - Lead traffic engineer for this ADOT/City of Glendale project which added HOV lane ramps to the Loop 101 and allowed an additional entrance/exit to University of Phoenix Stadium. The project was critical for the 2015 Super Bowl, held in Glendale. Design challenges included creating specialty traffic signal pole foundations and pull boxes which were designed into the ramp bridge structure. Chris was responsible for the traffic signal, roadway lighting, traffic control and signing/pavement marking designs.</image:title>

<image:title>ADOT Design Build - As lead traffic engineer, Chris was responsible for the traffic signal, roadway lighting, ITS, signing/pavement marking and traffic control designs for the intersection of Grand Avenue/Bell Road. Raising the profile of Bell Road up and over the adjacent Union Pacific Railroad tracks was critical in reducing overall traffic congestion in the area. ADOT Project components included providing detailed traffic control plans during an extended closure of Bell Road during the summer of 2016.</image:title>

<image:title>Traffic Impact Studies -   Traffic engineer. This project included calculating the trip generation for Downtown Chandler and the area between Rural Road, Val Vista Drive, Baseline Road, and Riggs Road (Approx.110 square miles) using the existing land uses. A detailed traffic demand model (TransCAD) was developed of the Downtown Chandler area and for the entire roadway network in the model. The existing Chandler Synchro Model was revised, in conjunction with the development of the TransCAD model to reflect the current and proposed conditions.     A gravity model and traffic assignment was run using the trip generation for the existing conditions. The traffic model was calibrated to match existing traffic volumes as provided by City of Chandler traffic counts and the 2008 MAG traffic model. Future traffic volumes in 2011, and 2028, were then estimated based on trip generation of known future developments such as the Chandler City Hall, Meridian West and other known downtown projects. Arizona Avenue was further analyzed under various roadway network configurations in order to evaluate the affect of providing various roadway connections in Downtown Chandler.     The results of this analysis, which considered proposed traffic volumes, intersection level of service, right-of-way constraints and utility conflicts, was provided to the project team to assist in the selection of the preferred roadway network configuration.</image:title>

<image:title>ADOT Design -   As a project engineer Chris designed pavement marking, roadway signing, traffic control, traffic signal, interconnect and roadway lighting plans. The designs included custom sign formats and sign structure details. This project along with an adjacent segment ‘kicked-off’ the upgrade of SR 303L from a two-lane roadway to a full freeway cross section. Design elements developed on the first two segments set the tone for the future of the SR 303L corridor. Chris also lead internal efforts on post design including answering RFI’s and shop drawing review.</image:title>

<image:title>Pinal County - Lead traffic engineer. This project extends Gantzel Road south of Bella Vista Road to eventually connect with Hunt Highway. The first phase of this project included reconstructing the existing intersection of Bella Vista Road/Gantzel Road to include a widened south leg that matches the existing north leg of the intersection. In conjunction with these improvements, Chris prepared a traffic analysis which determined the lane configurations and turn lane storage requirements at the intersection taking into account future traffic patterns that would result from the extension of Gantzel Road south to Hunt Highway. The existing and new turn lanes at the intersection were also sized appropriately based on Pinal County standards and the traffic volumes calculated in the traffic study. Chris was responsible for the traffic signal modification design at the intersection which was upgraded with new ADA pedestrian ramps and push buttons.</image:title>

<image:title>Pinal County - Lead traffic engineer. Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and Pinal County worked together to improve this intersection which lies on the County Line between the two jurisdictions. In order to improve traffic operations prior to the completion of the Hunt Highway widening project, the project team decided to widen the intersection of Gary Road/Empire Boulevard and upgrade the span-wire traffic signal to a permanent, Pinal County owned signal. Chris served as lead traffic engineer responsible for the traffic signal design and coordination with SRP resolving multiple overhead clearance issues between the new signal equipment and the existing transmission lines.</image:title>
